COVID-19 Update

Firstly I would like to thank all those members providing front line services to vulnerable members of our communities as part of our essential services response.

UNISON is in daily dialogue with management and we have raised issues identified through telephone and e-mails from our members.

I appreciate that Personal Protective Equipment is in short supply but this is a nationwide problem.  I received the following update from Health & Social Care Partnership yesterday:

“We now have the information on the national stocks and have placed an order with them for aprons; gloves and the fluid resistant masks.

We have had a delivery of the hand sanitiser and this is now being distributed- it is in large 5L bottles and so will need to be decanted into staff’s existing containers [we have ordered new containers for individual worker use but these will take number of days to arrive]. “

I will seek further updates from the employer today and over the weekend.

National/Scottish Government advice  is being updated regularly – the Council’s communications section updates and the government website

Now that schools will close to pupils other than children of keyworkers and other vulnerable children, discussions are underway about what arrangements will be in place for those working in identified services experiencing childcare problems.  I understand that further information will be issued by the Council today.

In terms of those who have to take time off for caring for children, we hope to be able to have a definitive position on this from the Council on Monday.

UNISON’s branch office has been closed to visitors in order for myself, branch officers, stewards and our staff to be able to respond safely to members’ enquiries.  Please get in touch by e-mail, telephone, website or facebook and we will be posting regular updates.  The branch will operate a 7 day service in the meantime subject to change.  Outwith normal working hours please continue to use our telephone number 0141 847 1687 or e-mail us and we will attempt to contact you asap.

Recent events have highlighted the significant contribution that you make in delivering essential care services to members in our communities.  We all owe you a debt of gratitude and, I am sure, that if colleagues in other occupations are called upon, they will respond and join you in the delivery of these services to our clients and customer
