UNISON MEMBERS – SCHOOLS RECOVER DFM STATEMENT

Dear Colleague

Following the Deputy First Minister’s statement yesterday indicating that Schools may return to full capacity in August – UNISON has issued the following press release as an initial response:

https://www.unison-scotland.org/return-to-school-must-be-driven-by-safety-not-politics-says-unison-scotland/

I have attached  a copy of the full statement issued by the DFM.

As you are aware we have been preparing for a return in August with 2 metre distancing, recovery plans, risk assessments and protocols all well underway. This announcement will significantly impact on all of these requiring a complete review to be undertaken.

We are currently reviewing the new guidance for those with “underlying health conditions” and will be discussing soon the next steps with employers.

I know that this announcement may have caused some anxiety, however UNISON has made it very clear that the health, safety and well-being of our members and the children are of the utmost importance. UNISON will have discussions with other trade unions this week to discuss the situation.

I will keep members updated on any developments, please ensure that you keep your contact details up to date and if you have a colleague who hasn’t received this communication ask them to contact us to update their email details.

Please stay safe, fit and healthy.

Thanks
Mark Ferguson
